Persona 4 fighter!

Persona 4 has been getting a lot of love lately.  The anime is going to air very soon, and just yesterday a handheld version of Persona 4 was announced for the Playstation Vita, with new additions like more voiceclips, more cutscenes, alternate costumes like the ones in Persona 3 FES, and a new character Mary who will be voiced by Kana Hanazawa(fuwafuwaru~).  I was hoping one of the new features would be the ability to play as a female main character, but it seems as if this won’t happen.  Persona 5 was also confirmed to be in development, with no extra details other than that the usual key members are working on it.

Beary swag

But most surprising was the announcement of a Persona 4 fighting game, which they will be producing with Arc System Works.  Titled “Persona 4 The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena”, it has a new storyline that occurs 2 months after the events of the original game.  Kuma/Teddie, looking real baller, is promoting some fighting event.  I assume this causes the rest of the cast of P4 to investigate.  A pretty silly plot, but fighting games are never known for their great stories.

Anywho, I am duly hype for this.  I’ve always thought that a Persona fighting game would be a great idea.  Now Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure can finally get a true spiritual sequel.

From the char select screen, it seems like there’s only 10 characters right now.  You can see that so far there’s the main character of P4(who knows what name they’ll give him), Yosuke, Chie, Yukiko, Kanji, and Aigis!  Interestingly enough, all of the P4 characters in here are using their starter personas, but Aigis is using her “Ultimate” persona from P3, Pallas Athena.  She’s also aligned with the Fool arcana instead of Chariot, so I guess this makes Episode Aegis/The Answer canon.  And here I thought that P3 Portable retconned all of FES.

Rise with some words of encouragement

Seems like Rise won’t be playable, and will be delegated to be announcer.  That kind of makes me sad, but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.  I’m not really sure I want to hear Kugimiya voice a playable char in a fighting game anyway lol.  I’m assuming Naoto will be another playable char, so that leaves 3 spots left.  I hope other Persona 3 characters will be playable.  Mitsuru and Yukari da best~

You can see more scans and the original announcement at Famitsu here.

Tougeki videos

This has been long overdue, but I’ve finally gotten around to putting up the links to the Tougeki GG videos from 2007 to 2010.  This includes the DVD version of the 2007 semifinals and finals.  The 2008 and 2010 Tougeki vids are on a Chinese video streaming service called Youku.  I detest this site for a good number of reasons, but right now they’re the only service up right now that has the videos.  Youku is notorious for being incredibly slow sometimes and for making it extremely difficult for people to rip videos from the site.  This is because in Youku, videos are only streamed about 7 minutes at a time.  Even if you pause the video and let it load, it won’t go beyond that 7 minutes.  It will only start to load the next 7 minute segment when you get near the end of the current 7 minute segment that you’re on.  So to load the whole video quickly, open up the video first and pause it.  Then once the 1st 7 minute segment is done loading, go near the end of it(like 6:40), play it for a few seconds and then pause.  Youku should then start loading the next 7 minute segment.  Repeat until the whole video is finished loading.  Once this is finished, you can finally watch the whole video from the beginning uninterrupted.  As you might have guessed, this makes it nearly impossible to rip videos from Youku in a clean fashion, because you can only download the videos in 7 min segments.

Silent Force so far has been able to restore the bulk of his Millia site: the Gameplay section.  Keep your eyes peeled for further updates.

You may have noticed that the site’s topbar has a bunch of new additions in it, though there’s nothing in them at the moment.  Silent Force’s Millia fansite The Irony of Chaste has recently gone down, its host gone indefinitely.   Since good free hosting is pretty much impossible to find these days, I decided to help him out and host his site here.  Originally my plan was to create a subdomain for The Irony of Chaste, but for the life of me I couldn’t figure out how to get this to work properly.  So instead I’m just going to merge the two sites.  Luckily Norematch doesn’t have too many pages to begin with, so this isn’t too difficult.  It’s going to take a while to get all of the Irony of Chaste pages up here 100%, since I’m not using the WordPress importer.  I know from experience that the importer has a bunch of problems with it, so I’m just gonna import stuff manually.

So just sit tight for now and wait for the return of the best Millia resource on the net.  In other news, I should probably add a section for GG videos in 2011, but there really haven’t been any big tournaments for that held this year(in videos).

I wasn’t planning on making a second compilation video for GG originally, but I had a fair amount of leftover clips that didn’t quite make the cut for the first video. Best moments in Guilty Gear also got a pretty strong response from the community, and I received a lot of tips through Youtube comments and messages regarding other great GG moments that I missed. So that’s the origin of Volume 2. It also didn’t feel right to me to have a GG compilation video without Ogawa, one of the iconic figures for this game, so I had to add him into this 2nd video haha.

Keeping with the theme of the first video, I made Volume 2 begin with Daigo Umehara and end with Hokuto no Ken. The first clip is from Tougeki 2003 Guilty Gear XX, where a team of Umehara, Pachi(wearing a Faust paperbag), and Arisaka get introduced during semifinals. The clip right after that is from Tougeki 2004 GGXX #Reload, where the ofc(Ogawa Fan Club) team of H.H, Pachi, and geneijin all wearing Faust bags get introduced during semifinals.

The numerous GG The Missing Link clips I used all came from these funny tool assisted playthrough videos that some dude on nico did. I guess I kind of broke the rules here by using non-match videos, but GG TML never got an arcade release so it’s kind of impossible to find matches of this game.

The clip of Tsubu vs FAB is from Tougeki 2006 GGXX Slash, and it’s probably the only time I’ve ever seen Potemkin get dizzied in a match video.

The clip at 8:11 is from a-cho casuals. It shows a bugged Order-Sol vs Slayer intro, where the fire persists and both characters end up starting the match at opposite positions.

Right after that is two clips of Arisaka from 2003 and 2005, and it’s amazing to see the transformation he went through in those 2 years from nerdy looking dude to buff handsome dude.

The clip at 12:32 shows Ogawa wearing a Dragonball Z scouter, right before their team gets introduced at semifinals at Tougeki 2007. There is actually a picture of all 3 members of team Oniganii(Ogawa, niga, Shouji) wearing scouters, but I wasn’t able to find it anywhere so I had to settle for this little clip.

Starting at 13:07 are two matches from GGXX #Reload, Ogawa vs negi Testament and vs Shonen Testament. They are a double perfect and a triple perfect respectively. In retrospect I kind of regret putting these two clips in there because this is best moments in Guilty Gear, not best matches.

Throughout the Eddie section are clips of Jade from Tales of the Abyss doing his Indignation Mystic Arte and Zetta from Makai Kingdom doing his signature Zetta Beam attack. This is a silly seiyuu joke, as Eddie’s voice actor does Jade and Zetta in their respective games. Guilty Gear actually has quite the star studded voice cast, with Johnny, I-No, and Eddie being the best example of this. Eddie’s seiyuu Takehito Koyasu is pretty famous and is usually cast in ikemen roles in video games and anime.

I finally finished the GG compilation video that I mentioned in my last post. It includes the coolest moments and funniest commentary from all of the arcade GG games, going from GGX all the way to Accent Core. The video is still mostly AC though, since it’s easily the longest lasting Guilty Gear game.

Some notes: There were a lot of amazing matches that I wanted to include in this video, like Ogawa vs FAB in the first GGXX #R GIGS tournament, P.C vs MEN-Kaichou Sol mirrors in #R and Ogawa vs Machaboo at Tougeki 2007, but it’s really hard to find a good single moment in those because the entire matches are just so amazing.

There are very few clips from Slash because honestly… Slash was an extremely boring game. So there really aren’t that many hype moments captured on videos in that game. There were also relatively few GGX clips, but GGX is a hilarious game; it’s just difficult to find good footage of it since it’s so old.

The clip of Shonen vs Saku in #R at 7:28 actually wasn’t supposed to be that long. It was supposed to just be that cool corner-to-corner Gravedigger loop, but I ended up screwing up the starting point of the clip and didn’t notice until the video was encoded.

The crazy GGX Baiken player that starts appearing at 9:22 is 白龍(Pairon), and the event that he’s playing at in the video is GGX Sammy’s Cup, which is probably the biggest GGX tournament that Japan ever held. He ended up getting 2nd place in it. As far as I know, Pairon only played during GGX and a bit during XX era. However, during 2009-2010 GGX had a sudden revival in Japan for whatever reason, with some arcades like a-cho, Mikado, and Gamechariot releasing videos, and Pairon was shown to still be around, playing exactly the same way lol.

The three clips starting at 12:17 are part of the Galaxy meme that started in the Nakano TRF arcade. In the initial clip, Gazou Faust beats Batako Zappa by having his meteors hit while scalpel pulling. Throughout this entire tournament, the Faust players were getting really lucky, constantly getting meteors, so the commentator HAWK(who is a Sol player) just started screaming Galaxy everytime meteors appeared. People would start doing the same whenever Ky did his air star specials too.

Finally, the last clip is mike vs MIU. People that have been to Evolution should know MIU since he’s been to several EVOs in the past.
