The official Guilty Gear Xrd website updated today with a surprise location test for Version 1.02! The loketests will be happening all this week in three different arcades in the Tokyo Area. There is a partial English translation of the changes posted by Ronove on Dustloop here. There are a number of bug fixes and minor character changes, like Bedman’s tension gain getting an improvement. There are some system changes as well, the most significant of which is that bursts are throwable again! I have no idea why this was removed in the original version of Xrd. This was by far the coolest thing you could do in older Guilty Gear games. But the most significant change for these loketests is that Ramlethal Valentine will be playable! She has been announced to have a mid April official release, so this week will be the only chance that players get to test her out before unlock. You can see some nice screenshots of her in Dengeki’s article right here. I will update this post throughout the week as more information and articles become available.

In site related news, I have finally stopped being lazy and brought the GG video pages up to date with Xrd and all of AC+R. The Xrd videos page can be accessed by clicking on 2014 Videos in the sidebar. AC+R has officially lasted almost 2 years, so the complete match video archive is spread across three pages: 2012, 2013, and 2014 videos.

The Notable Players page has also been updated for Xrd. There aren’t that many players in it at the moment because of the scarce number of videos, but you can expect the list to be updated frequently.

This week, Jonio is holding the Mikado Masters WGC event, which is GGXX AC+R ONLY. So we won’t be seeing any Xrd tournies at Mikado until 3/27. It is pretty clear that there is a sizable portion of the GG playerbase that prefer AC+R over Xrd. Not just because of missing characters, but also because of different mechanics, character changes, and the overall pacing. There were a decent number of players who showed up to last weekend’s AC+R 5on5 who have not been active in Xrd, like Nakamura, Maruken, En, and Satou. I’m sure that a good fraction of the playerbase will actively play both games as well. With that said, there is a chance that this will be the last major AC+R event in the Kanto region. The schedule is as follows:
3/15 5on5
3/19 Beginner’s tournament
3/20 3on3
3/21 Beginner’s 3on3, Ladies only tournament, singles tourney
3/22 2on2, 3on3, and Same character 3on3
3/23 Haisha Kyuushu tourney
You can expect Jonio to stream everything on the Mikado nico channel. Nowadays, Jonio has also been streaming the tournaments on his Twitch channel simultaneously, so you can check that out as well. Be sure to follow Jonio on Twitter for the latest updates.

Writing this post because I know a lot of people want to watch Guilty Gear Xrd in high definition. Anyone who follows any non-Capcom fighting games knows that it is difficult to find footage in HD. There are a number of reasons for this, ranging from many Japanese players and arcades not having good capture cards, to the filesize and bitrate limitations on Nicovideo. Xrd is a beautiful game, so a lot of the finer details in the presentation get lost in many of the videos available. So here is the currently available 720p match footage of this game! Some of the stronger players here that I’d recommend watching are Kedako, eki-chan, Kuni, Isamu, and LOX.

Mikado held their 2nd Guilty Gear Xrd singles tournament last night, and they had a special pre-tourney treat for people watching their stream: a big exhibition set between Ogawa, Machaboo, and Nemo! While Nemo has been going to Mikado regularly since the game’s release, Machaboo and especially Ogawa are extremely rare to see. It is pretty amazing to have 3 of the OG gods of the game all gathered in one place. This set of videos is pretty much required watching for all GG fans everyone.

Now that Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- is out, Jonio has changed the Mikado GG tournament schedule to accommodate the influx of new players! It is now
Tuesday: GGXX AC+R 3on3
Wednesday: GG Xrd Beginner and Intermediate players tournament
Thursday: GG Xrd singles
Saturday: GG Xrd 3on3

It’s really nice to see Mikado still supporting AC+R. Especially since many GG players cannot play their main character in Xrd.

In addition, the Mikado nico community has now been upgraded to a nico channel! The main effect of this is that Mikado nico streams will no longer be on the stupid 30 minute limit. They can now stream as long as they want, which is pretty convenient for everyone.

The GGXrd Player’s Guild site is up, and it functions exactly like the +R version. It has win/loss and other statistics of everybody who has a player card registered, and also shows the player ranks by sheer number of wins and risk rating(aka PSR). The Xrd player’s guild has something very special though, and it is in the addition of voice comments! Players who have a card registered can log in and have their character congratulate them on their performance in matches and for unlocking medals. Kurushii was able to figure to rip the contents of the entire site, including the voice comments. You can find the download links on Dustloop. I am currently being serenaded by Millia’s voice and it is lovely.

Sourenga has been adding English subs to the GGXrd arcade story videos. Unfortunately, his Youtube account has recently been suspended for this very reason, but he is continuing his work on Dailymotion. Definitely worth checking out if you’re into this kind of stuff.

Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- has made its debut in arcades, and Day 1 was certainly crazy as tons of arcades were streaming the game. I’m pretty sure at one point, there were five streams going on simultaneously. But before that, ArcSystem Works did a special Day 0 stream with Pachi, Daisuke Ishiwatari, Akira(the Potemkin and Tager player), and Tomomi Isomura who is mostly known for voicing Makoto in Blazblue as well as May’s friend April. The stream had a brief system explanation as well as a tournament featuring ASW staff members! Shoutouts to Kurushii for ripping the video and making it available.

Mikado had a singles tournament on release day, and Jonio had the videos up in record time. The tourney brought back a number of old faces like Nemo and Kusoru so it’s worth a watch, even though everybody is still figuring out stuff. I’ve embedded the full playlist below: it contains 6 videos.

Okayama Fantasista did not have a tournament, but streamed a ton of casual matches on ustream. The stream archive is now available on their Youtube channel! You can see a lot of players trying to figure out stuff here, most notably U-Zen who is mostly playing I-No and Millia.

a-cho did not have a tournament as well. But they did record almost 2 hours worth of casual matches!
